Train to Mountain

Train to Mountain is now our recommended training partner

After two decades of guiding climbing, trekking, and expedition programmes in the Ecuadorian Andes, we have seen how much preparation matters—and how often general fitness leaves gaps in mountain readiness.

Running and gym training provide a valuable foundation. But climbing for hours in mountaineering boots, carrying a pack, and maintaining a steady pace through a long ascent and descent place different demands on the body.

Even committed athletes can arrive having trained consistently without preparing for the particular expedition they have booked.

Good preparation does not guarantee a summit. Weather, glacier conditions, acclimatisation, and individual responses to altitude all influence the outcome. However, training that reflects the demands of the route helps clients arrive better prepared for the effort ahead.

That is why Ecuador Eco Adventure is partnering with Train to Mountain.

The partnership

Train to Mountain is a personalised training platform built for mountain athletes. Its approach connects a client’s objective, training history, and time available before departure with a plan that adapts as their preparation progresses.

The platform supports connections with Garmin, COROS, Suunto, and Apple Health. Every Sunday, it recalibrates the following week around completed training and recovery, helping clients adjust when work, travel, or everyday commitments interrupt their plans.

Through this partnership, Ecuador Eco Adventure will contribute practical information from our expeditions, including elevation gain, typical summit-day duration, acclimatisation schedules, and the points where climbers commonly struggle.

The aim is to connect training at home with the demands our guides see on the mountain—from the ascent above Cotopaxi’s José Rivas Refuge to the long summit push on Chimborazo.

Physical training and acclimatisation serve different purposes. Our expedition programmes will continue to provide the altitude progression, recovery time, technical instruction, and certified guiding appropriate to each itinerary.

What every EEA-booked client gets

Under our partnership, confirmed Ecuador Eco Adventure clients will receive a 30-day free trial of Train to Mountain, extended from the standard 14 days, with no credit card required at signup.

The dedicated access link is being finalised. Once activated, we will share it privately through booking confirmations, expedition briefings, or direct communication with confirmed clients.

The trial gives you time to explore the platform, follow the training, and see how the plan responds to your progress before deciding whether to subscribe.

Clients who choose to continue can select a subscription that suits their preparation period, whether they are training for one expedition or several mountain objectives over the year. Participation is optional, and the free trial creates no obligation to purchase a subscription.

Which peaks and treks it covers

The partnership begins with Cotopaxi and Chimborazo, identified as live objectives in Train to Mountain’s catalogue at the start of our agreement.

Our agreed mountain scope includes:

  • Cotopaxi — 5,897 m
  • Chimborazo — 6,263 m
  • Cayambe — 5,790 m
  • Antisana — 5,704 m
  • Iliniza Sur — 5,248 m
  • Iliniza Norte — 5,126 m
  • Carihuairazo — approximately 5,020 m

Additional peak plans will be introduced as Ecuador Eco Adventure shares the relevant operating information and Train to Mountain completes their integration.

This matters because preparation should reflect more than summit elevation. The starting point, vertical gain, expected time on the route, equipment carried, and recovery between climbs all shape the physical demands of an expedition.

We will confirm the availability of the relevant training objective when sharing access details with each client.

Trekking is in too

The partnership also includes the planned introduction of training support for:

  • El Altar Trek
  • Condor Trek
  • Ingapirca Inca Trail
  • Carihuairazo Hike

These objectives will become available as Train to Mountain launches its trekking plans.

Multi-day trekking requires preparation of its own: sustained walking, repeated climbs and descents, uneven ground, and enough endurance to recover and continue the following morning.

Our contribution will help the platform reflect those practical demands. We will announce each trekking objective as it becomes available.

How to start

If you are already booked with Ecuador Eco Adventure, reply to your booking email to ask about the training benefit and availability for your objective. We will send your private access details once the partner link is active.

If you are considering an expedition, you can explore the Train to Mountain demo to see how the platform works.

Our goal is simple: help you arrive in Ecuador with preparation that matches the adventure you have chosen, supported by a training plan at home and an experienced guiding team on the mountain.
