I recently climbed Chimborazo through EcuadorEcoAdventure. Wladimir, the owner was thoroughly helpful and friendly from start to finish. The price was fair and he gave me an acclimatisation plan that didn’t require a guide to help me save money too. I was given accommodation in a double bed ensuite upon returning from my acclimatisation trek. Wlady also offered to pick me up from the bus station.
For the actual climb there were two of us going with EEA, with a guide each. Everything was provided, transport, food, equipment, accomdation. Only suitable warm and waterproof clothing was needed. Santiago and Fausto were both really experienced and very nice, they had both both climbed the mountain over 50 times. Fausto was my guide and he was fantastic with regards to pacing the whole trek to make sure I got to the top. They were both really friendly and informative throughout.
One thing I would recommend if trying to climb Chimborazo on a budget is to pay a bit of extra money to climb a 5500m or so mountain beforehand.
I climbed Mt. Altar at 4400m, which was very convenient because it’s near Riobamba and a guide wasn’t needed, but to have the best chance of summiting Chimborazo I think another higher climb would be prudent.
